Galaxy NOTE 3 First look

The big screen trend in mobile phones has been started a couple of years ago.
I remember that the first 5 inch phone was launched by DELL, the Dell Streak which was not a big hit in the market.
But later on Samsung launched it's first 5 inch phone, after a big success of Samsung galaxy S2 in the worldwide mobile phone market; the Galaxy NOTE... and with this SAMSUNG captured the market attention further and there the trend of Big screen war has started.
This September 4th, Samsung has officially announced the 3rd phone in the Galaxy NOTE series is the Samsung Galaxy NOTE 3 with the same stylus S-Pen but with lot more INNOVATIVE features as compared to the predecessor.

There are so many more latest things in NOTE 3 and customizations in hardware over the predecessor.
The best thing in the hardware spec which I liked is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU bundled in LTE version; because of the speed that the CPU offers.

Full review of NOTE 3 in-detail :

How it looks outside:
The size of the display for NOTE 3 measures 5.7 inch but Samsung claims that it will not be felt bigger as compared to the predecessor because of the other adjustments they have done in the shape of the device to make it sleek.
It has a True HD(1920x1080) display resolution and 386 ppi packed Super AMOLED display which is similar to the predecessor.

Apart from the above statements there is nothing extra to explain or highlight in this new phone.
So by not wasting time we will quickly go to the next section.

How the world looks to NOTE 3:

  • It has an eye of 13 Megapixels BSI sensor (Also used in HTC Evo 4G and Xolo Q700) with Smart stabilization, lighten by an LED flash with high CRI and zero shutter lag.
    • Back-illuminated sensor, also known as backside illumination (BSI or BI) sensor is a type of digital image sensor that uses a novel arrangement of the imaging elements to increase the amount of light captured and thereby improve low-light performance.
    • The color rendering index (CRI), sometimes called color rendition index, is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.
Light sources with a high CRI are desirable in color-critical applications such as photography and cinematography.
    • In photography, shutter lag is the delay between triggering the shutter and when the photograph is actually recorded.
This is a common problem in the photography of fast-moving objects or people in motion.
So "zero shutter lag" allows for instant capture and freezing the exact moment that the photo is taken.
  • It captures 2160p (3840x2160) @30fps and 1080p (1920x1080) @60fps [LTE version].
    • 2160p is an alternative name for 4K UHD, a resolution planned to appear in future UHDTV products.
  • Secondary camera offers 1080p@30fps.
Nothing much to be said, but both the primary and secondary camera are really too good.

Lets see what's inside the sleek box:
Definitely it's not going to be a budget phone for all of us.
  • Having said that it's obvious that Samsung has packed the 2.3 GHz Quad-core Krait 400 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU) in the LTE version of NOTE 3.
  • 3GB LPDDR3 RAM can hold all of your applications in the RAM itself; those are installed in your device.
  • Just making a statement against the ratio of how many applications you install in your device and how many of them you are opening at an instant.
  • The Galaxy Note 3 is also the first smartphone to include support for USB 3.0, which enables faster data transfers and charging when attached to a compatible port.
  • It comes with 32 or 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3200 mAh battery.
  • And of course it has a USB host controller to which you can connect mouse or kyboard or a LP pendrive and an MHL link that lets you through our display contents to an external monitor.

Sofware packed:
  • Galaxy NOTE 3 comes with the latest Android version 4.3 Jelly bean.
  • Pre installed Samsung's proprietary TouchWiz user interface and softwares.
  • Software features provided for Stylus pen are to be discussed seen in the next section but in very brief.

The Stylus S-Pen:
The most unique feature of NOTE series of phones is the Stylus Pen.
With the NOTE 2 itself samsung has already introduced the Air command feature.
Here in this latest release the Air command feature is made associated with five options to give the user an easy to use interface.

The Air command gives you the following five options:
  • Action memo
  • Scrap booker
  • Screen writer
  • S finder
  • Pen window
I am not going to give you a great detials on the above mentioned features because this is beyond the scope of the post as i think.
But please find the below youtube link officially posted by Samsung that gives you really good idea how the above mentioned features work.

Out of the five features the most innovative feature i found is the Pen window.
You just draw a window anywhere in the screen and the system will give you some options for what application you want to be drawn there: Calculator, youtube, browser, hangout and many more application options???

Hey Shivain.

I think what Saholic link has exposed for the NOTE 3 price is just a guess towards the market price.
And simultaneously i feel the price tag is quite obvious for this device but it may not be that huge;
why because:
- Currently The Sony Xperia Z ultra featuring the same chipset (Qualcomm Krait 400) costs 39,999 INR (flipkart.com price)
- And NOTE 3 has 3GB RAM as compared to 2GB of Xperia Z ultra
- Plus the NOTE 3 feautures USB 3.0 and the Super AMOLED display over Xperia Z ultra
- Plus additional camera feautures over Xperia Z ultra

And i feel the Sony devices are quite over priced as compared to others having similar features.

So with these said notable points i really do not think NOTE 3 will hit that price tag in Indian market.
